About

About Riding the Pine

PHRASE β€’ CANADIAN
1. to sit on the sidelines 2. a spousal artisan team that rarely sits

We are David and Kaoru Coates. We met at Emily Carr University in 1988, where Kaoru studied ceramics, and David graphic design. After decades in the corporate design world, we’re back making art together.Β

Always bringing gifts back to friends in her native country of Japan, Kaoru wanted something that represented Canada beyond maple syrup and smoked salmon. That’s where Riding the Pine began in 2015. With a desire to offer beautifully crafted, sustainable products for the home and for lovers of art and craft, we’re bringing Canadiana to the forefront.Β

Our products are at retailers across the Lower Mainland and we regularly participate in four to six handicraft markets every year. After seven years as a hobby, Riding the Pine was incorporated in 2021.
